Ways we’re helping travelers escape
If you’d asked us in January 2020 where we thought we’d be this time of the year, we’d probably say on the beach in Key West. But as the coronavirus crisis has upended our lives — and the travel industry — we used our ingenuity and shared passion for travel to quickly pivot. As travelers ourselves, we acutely understand the need to “escape” our current situation while remaining safe. With virtual experiences, creative projects and inspiring activities, here’s how we’re helping others to discover amazing things about the world while they stay home.
We want to keep travelers inspired to seek out adventure, even while they’re at home. Which is why we created our Escape Guide. Every week, we update our Escape Guide with inspiring travel content, fun activities and virtual experiences. At-home travelers can tour new destinations or test their knowledge with trivia quizzes — whatever lets them take a quick travel break.
Inspired by their own experiences working from home with kids, our team decided to build Krayon, a site (and app) where you can download destination-inspired coloring pages. Looking for fun and educational activities to occupy their kids (so they would stop making cameos on conference calls), the team whipped up over 40 pages of famous landmarks, prominent buildings and adorable wildlife. Travelers of all ages can experience the world through color, as pages range from easy to more complex. And for those with the KAYAK for iOS app, you can color the images directly in our app, no printing required.
Seeing how travelers responded to our Escape Guide, and how our partners were eager to help bring actual experiences to our users, the team created KAYAK@Home. By bringing virtual travel activities together with our City Guides and other inspiring content, we’re giving travelers the opportunity to experience the things they love about travel from the comfort of home. Visit an art gallery, take a cooking class, or attend a webinar to start creating remote travel memories.
At KAYAK, we will continue to support travelers as they navigate a changing world. Because we are travelers, too. And we know that when the world is ready, we can’t wait to explore it again.
